TweetWe think of playing sports as something that is fun and that will make us strong and healthy. We never intend to get ourselves, or allow our kids, to get hurt—but of course, it happens all the time. That is why you are seeing more doctors who do Prolotherapy, PRP injections and other related rehab treatments like that.
The Point Pleasant Register at mydailyregister.com, presented a piece yesterday, April 6, 2011, that anyone who plays, or knows someone who plays sports should read so they can avoid PRP or prolotherapy injections.
It’s not just the pros who have to worry about sports injuries. Our kids love soccer, baseball, football, and other organized sports. This is National Public Health Week, and today Recreational safety is being observed.
The Point Pleasant Register’s piece reminds us that some of the safety equipment that kids may balk at putting up with has a real purpose in saving them from harm; protective gear like mouthpieces, shin guards, and face masks. This will help avoid treatments like prolotherapy or PRP ….just so you know, PRP stands for Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy.
Also, your child should be in the appropriate age group and not because of their size. The Register notes; “A 4 year old (is nonetheless) a 4 year old when it comes to using (his or her) motor skills.”
Another reminder is to drink that boring water! It is essential especially when it’s hot. A really good tip in the article is that plain water is the best and although sports drinks have many minerals for the active person, they may not be the right thing for younger kids.
